Dirickson-Derickson Family

***NOTE: This message may be of interest to descendants of Margaret Emily Dirickson Bodine, second wife of Lorenzo Dow Munselle of Richland Springs, Texas.

Subject: Dirickson-Derickson Family

My name is Kimberley Easterling and I am the Great Great Granddaughter of Sophia Derickson, a daughter of William Derickson and Rachel Bratton. William moved to Bracken County, Kentucky after the death of his wife with Seth William (son), Sophia, Emily and Julia (daughters). The 1850 Census Report spelled their name incorrectly - "Dureickson". From family stories passed down, we know they were wealthy and owned a large part of Northeastern Bracken County to include Bladeston, Cumminsville, Walcott, Dover, and Gertrude Townships, and possibly lands in Mason County. He donated land in Bladeston to build the United Methodist Church and Cemetary. There is a picture of the Bladeston Church at:

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kybchs/bracken.html

My mother is currently taking pictures of all the graves at the Bladeston cemetary and the Johnsville Cemetary and I will be posting them to various websites in the very near future. I'm not sure why they suddenly moved to this area, but family stories maintain they were a very religious family. During my research, I have discovered that they donated lands in Tennessee on at least 2 occasions to churches. Hope this helps!

Obituary for Joy Bennett Munsell Lytle

Death Notice

LYTLE, Joy Bennett, 26, customer sales representative, of Cedar Park died Friday. Services 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Austin Museum of Art - Laguna Gloria. Arrangements by Beck, Cedar Park, TX. - Published in the Austin American-Statesman on 1/1/2008.

Lytle, Joy Bennett Munsell

Our daughter, Joy Bennett Munsell Lytle, was taken from us unexpectedly December 28, 2007 in Austin, TX. Nicknamed "Jelly Bean" by her grandfather, J.B. moved through this life with a maturity beyond her years and an elegance matched only by the ballet dancers she admired and performed with as a young girl. It took two trips to Texas Women's Hospital in Houston TX for Joy to join us here on earth May 7, 1981, but she quickly made a spiritual connection to it and to nature. The outdoors - the wind, the water, the hills - defined the way she lived and tied her tightly to her family and many friends. She grew up enjoying the shores of Lake Travis with her closest friends, her brothers and sisters. J.B. was always anxious to be in the water, hiking the hills and reaffirming nature as her space. Camping, snow skiing, visiting the Tetons and a family trip to Yellowstone National Park remain special memories. J.B. wore a smile and giggled all of the time, and instinctively saw the best in everyone she met. She will be most remembered as an incredible mother to her children, Jason Kole and Malia Storm. She spent her days with them and was an active member of a mothering program in Leander. Kole and Malia inspired J.B. to continue her studies. She talked often about how she intended to make education a centerpiece of their lives so was studying to become a teacher. We think she would have been a great one. She graduated a semester early from Austin High in 1999 and loved reading epic stories and history. She began reading the entire library of Dr. Suess [sic] and Berenstain Bears to her children from the day they were born and never missed a night with them. J.B. had a family and grandparents Ida Schonberg, Raymond and Jacqueline Bennett, Beulah Munsell and her great grandmother Blanch Bennett, her father Matthew Munsell and his family, Cheri Stanton, Erica, Anna and Jennifer Hollingsworth, and her Aunts Uncles and many cousins, Michelle Tanner and her family, Anthony Bennett and his family and Mark and Bethany Munsell and their family. Joy was a force of nature who shared a strong connection with her Dad in the beliefs and ways of the wolf. She howled at the moon with her dogs Patch and Gidget, and quietly, instinctively served as a guide for all of those around her. She was an integral member of the pack and will be sorely missed. Joy had an incredible sense of humor and was a lover of music, yet an incredibly bad singer. She had beautiful blonde hair and a warm, welcoming presence, yet she never left any doubt about where she stood if the occasion called for it. J.B. loved beautiful works of art and was one herself. The family will receive guests at Laguna Gloria on Wednesday, January 2nd, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 3809 West 35th Street in Austin. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome contributions to the Kole and Malia Lytle scholarship fund at Austin Community Foundation, 4315 Guadalupe St, Suite 300 Austin TX 78705. Beck Funeral Home, (512) 244-3772

Munsell Family Question

**NOTE: Does anyone know this family???

Nancy,

I was just reading about Townes Van Zandt and saw he was married to Jeanene Munsell (Googling her name brought me to your blog). Almost exactly a year ago, an ex-girlfriend of mine named Joy Munsell died. She was from Texas and had a sister named Janae, so I was curious whether you knew if these Texas Munsells are related to Townes or wife. (I'm a songwriter like Townes, and wrote a lot of songs about Joy - so it seemed cool that there might be a connection to him through Joy. )

...Thanks for your time.

Munsell/Monsell Family tree site

While searching through my uncle's papers, I realized the history I had in my hands. He is actually my half uncle, same father as mine. I've been doing a little research and came across your website. My uncle was Benjamin Carter Taylor, son of Marion Monsell and Carter Taylor. The information I have is from letters he shared with his only aunt, Helen Albee Monsell, on his mother's side. Here is the lineage as she wrote it.

Marion Monsell was born to Robert Monsell (born 1866) and Anna Hatfield Brewster (Helen (born 1895) is another daughter, and I have been told that there was another sibling who died earlier.)
Robert E. Monsell was born to Edward Monsell (born 1834) and Ellen Albee
Edward Monsell was born to Abraham Monsell and Savina (spelling?) Jayne
Abraham Monsell son to William Monsell who married Sussanah who died in 1854 at age 66
William Monsell son to Alexander Monsell who died 1807 at age 70

On the site there is a Robert Monsell with the birth date of 1866 but it lists his mother as Nelly. I assume this is the same Robert that I have listed whose mother was Ellen according to Helen.

I have about 30 years worth of letters between my uncle and his aunt to go through. The history is just fascinating. The line of the Monsell family ended with my uncle. Helen had no children and neither did my uncle. My father and his sisters inherited everything when my uncle passed a few years ago. I am sure that someone who is related along these family lines would also be interested in these papers. We also have pictures of people that we are unsure who they are and can only assume they are a part of the Monsell family. I am hoping to scan most of the letters so I have duplicate copies, but it will take quite some time to complete.

I hope maybe you can help connect me with other people interested in the Monsell family tree so I may share the history I have with them.

Sincerely,
Allison Taylor Hardman
